Silver Lining

We have been virtually unaffected by the terrible economy...until yesterday when Chris was informed that everyone in his office is required to take 2 months of unpaid time off. If the situation doesn't improve after 6 months then the layoffs will begin.

This makes me think how grateful I am:
  • for my job.
  • that we have enough money saved to handle this.

I am still nervous and concerned but I know we are prepared. I was also bummed about the thought of not getting this great apartment we found on Saturday. I have spent a lot of time the last few weeks finding vacancies and making appointments to look at them. I have been thoroughly unimpressed until Saturday, when we found this great apartment on the same block we already live on. The apartment isn't any bigger than our current place but it is significantly nicer and is only $55 more per month! Given the current circumstance I didn't know if we would still take the apartment but after some discussion we still feel good about moving.

HERE IS THE SILVER LIVING: Chris will actually study for the GMAT. I have been bugging Chris about this for months and this time off will actually give him the chance to study for and take the GMAT. Two months is more than enough time so I am hoping he will also accomplish a lot of his application processes for business school during that time.

Let Chris know that I have HOARDS of books, practice exams, etc. if he wants to use them to practice.

You are the best to think of the positive things in a situation like this, I give you major props! And way to be prepared! This economy is exactly why we have not purchased a house right now. I would much rather have the money sitting in a bank gaining hardly any interest then be stuck with something I can't pay for in the end and be in the same boat with mainstream america. It seems with each passing day I hear of another effected friend or family member.
But that will be nice for him to get ahead in the MBA process. It takes so much time, which it sounds like Chris didn't have much of. Enjoy your time together!

Thank goodness for silver linings. I hope the new apartment still works out and will give Chris the studying inspiration he needs for the GMAT.

That's great he will be able to get so much done, and that you will be able to see him. But still really hard. I'm sorry to hear that! This economy does make you think though, I really am not the biggest fan of my job, but I am so grateful to have one...I just need to tell myself that more often! good luck with everything! P.S. Sad news, I don't think we will be able to see you when you guys come, lame!!!

Wow, that is crazy. But you know that Chris will do awesome on his GMAT, get into any school he wants, and come out on top. He's got what it takes. Thank goodness you've got what it takes to see the bright side! You guys are so great.
